Motion Raceworks Rocky Mountain Race Week Daily Coverage: Day One Action From Thunder Valley

Motion Raceworks Rocky Mountain Race Week Daily Coverage: Day One Action From Thunder Valley

Rocky Mountain Race Week is in the books, and we were traveling the route with all these folks so we could bring you the FREE livestream that we had going all week long. It was a week full of fun, adventures, carnage, and more, but even if you were there you wouldn’t have been able to see it all. There is that much going on! But thanks to the folks at Motion Raceworks we’ve got more cool video coverage from the entire week and we’re going to share it all with you one day at a time. They were on-site with their parts merch trailer and were helping people out with great stuff all week long. This is the first video from Day One at Thunder Valley in Noble Oklahoma, which means everyone is racing and there is no on road carnage or anything yet. This is the day where everyone thinks everything is great and that they can win this whole thing. Spirits are high. At least until the racing gets going.

Why? Because some of these poor folks are going to tear their stuff up before they ever get to leave the first track. The good news is that they have all night to work on them because we don’t leave for the next track until the next morning, and the drive isn’t horrible from Thunder Valley to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Plus, there is the World’s Largest Summit Racing Equipment store on the way and it’s full of great parts to fix most anything.

Between Summit and the Motion Raceworks trailer full of parts, there was no shortage of new stuff going on hot rods Sunday night.

What To Pack In Your Drag Week Or Race Week Trailer: Motion Raceworks Thought They Might Show Us How It’s Done

What To Pack In Your Drag Week Or Race Week Trailer: Motion Raceworks Thought They Might Show Us How It’s Done

With both Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 and Drag Week coming up in the next couple of weeks, there is a lot of thrashing going on around the country as folks get ready to go and race. And besides the building of cars, finishing of engines, and all that goes into making a car ready to both drive and race, there is then the loading of all the crap you have to haul in order to be self sufficient. Yes, you can stop and buy parts, yes you can stay in a hotel, yes you can ask strangers and fellow competitors for help, but you can’t have anyone carry anything you need to keep you or the car alive otherwise. That means you have to haul your own spares, tools, luggage, etc. regardless of what kind of vehicle you are in. For many folks that means a trailer is in order, and with a rule mandating a maximum trailer size of 4 feet by 8 feet, you have to be smart with what you bring and how you pack it.

Because of these challenges, there are a lot of different ideas on what makes the best Race Week trailer setup, but one thing that never changes is the need to pack 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. Here are some tips and tricks from Doug at Motion Raceworks on how to do it right, and make sure you bring the right things, as he packs his trailer for his 7 second Nova.

Huffer Hospital: Watch NHRA Crew Chief Rob Wendland Save A Blower That’s Lived A Hard Life

Huffer Hospital: Watch NHRA Crew Chief Rob Wendland Save A Blower That’s Lived A Hard Life

When it comes to guys who know every inch of a top fuel dragster or nitro funny car, NHRA crew chief Rob Wendland is in elite company. Having won races as a driver and a tuner and having lived his whole life in the sport of straight line competition, Wendland is uniquely qualified to tackle just about any job you can think of, including the work of saving a top fuel blower that has seen better days.

Wendland served as the crew chief for Terry McMillan’s top fuel operation for years and they were always a team that did more with less. It was not ever about out-spending anyone there but it was about using all your resources as smartly and as efficiently as possible. We’re hoping to get Rob and Terry back on the tour as soon as possible. But we digress.

In this video we’re in Rob’s shop and he’s got a blower from a lower budget NHRA top fuel team that needs some serious help. Over the course of the video we see some procedures, some tools, and some tech that we’ve never seen before. The amazingly trick cutter from DMPE is but one example. The process and procedure of not only rebuilding the blower but actually repairing the rotors and the case is great and detailed.

We dig Rob’s honesty at the end of the video when he mentions the fact that the work he did here is above and beyond what most would do, but since this is a supercharger from a smaller team who is not racing for the title, it made the most sense for time and money.

This is some really neat stuff!

Press play blow to see Rob Wendland save a top fuel supercharger that’s had a hard life –

Street Racing Action From The Small Tire Short Notice KC Cash Days In Mexico

Street Racing Action From The Small Tire Short Notice KC Cash Days In Mexico

The Wyco Racing Small Tire Short Notice Cash Days event looked to have a very diverse group of racers ready to throw down on the street. The location was interesting as well, and in this great video from Urban Hillbilly Videos you’ll get to see all the action from start to finish. And like I said, there are some interesting cars at this one. Sure you are going to see Camaros and Mustangs and Novas oh my, but you are also going to see interesting imports, Mopars, trucks, and more. This is a cool video that is fun to watch. And the road? WTF are they thinking? This thing goes up and then down before a huge hill after the finish line. I guess it helps you slow down quick, but man it looks like a weird place to race.

Watch Al Hofmann Run The Table At The 1995 NHRA Finals And Needle John Force The Whole Tim He Does It

Watch Al Hofmann Run The Table At The 1995 NHRA Finals And Needle John Force The Whole Tim He Does It

If there is one thing we know it’s that one of the most fun parts of drag racing in the 1990s was the rivalry between John Force and Al Hofmann. No, Hofmann did not get around Force for a title during his reign of terror but he did beat him enough on race weekends to officially be a pain in his ass and the fact that he so loved doing it and telling the world that he loved doing it made the scene even better. In 1995 Hofmann finished second in the NHRA funny car points and seemed poised to really make some big noise in 1996. It did not necessarily work out that way but for this moment in time captured here on video, Al Hofmann was coming into John Force’s life like a freight train through his living room.

You are going to see Hofmann take on and take down Tony Pedregon, John Force, and then Cruz Pedregon all on the same day and in that order. Tony P almost got him, he puts an all-time gate job on Force, and Cruz has had so many problems that they had to go get a body from the NHRA Top Eliminator Club ceiling which was hanging there for decoration!

Wild and wooly times at the NHRA finals…which we hope will be back in Pomona next year.

Hit the image of smilin’ Al Hofmann to see his triumph at the 1995 NHRA Finals –

WILD RIDE: Top Sportsman Racer, Ronnie Proctor, Goes For One Hell Of A Ride

WILD RIDE: Top Sportsman Racer, Ronnie Proctor, Goes For One Hell Of A Ride

Sometimes stuff just doesn’t go the way you think it’s going to go, and sometimes when that happens it will get your attention in a hurry. Such is the case with poor Ronnie Proctor, who went for one hell of a wild ride at Indy yesterday. You have to give him some credit for keeping his head on straight. Sure he’s along for the ride for most of it, but thank god he kept his foot off the skinny pedal on the right, because otherwise this sucker could have been running into the tree from the wrong way. You have to wonder what his heart rate was as he got it straight and rolled past the blocks after getting unbelievably close to crossing the center line. Of course none of that matters at that point, but most racers can’t say they’ve been facing both directions in their own lane before even going 330 feet down the track, nor would they want to.

At least if you are going to do something exciting you might as well make sure it counts, and since it is the US Nationals, you know that it will all be caught on camera. Since he’s okay, and so is the car, we’ll give him a hearty congrats on being the talk of the town for today and hope the rest of his weekend goes smoother than this one run.

Classic YouTube: An Odd Fight Between A 5.4/5-speed Crown Victoria and…a Mercury Villager

Classic YouTube: An Odd Fight Between A 5.4/5-speed Crown Victoria and…a Mercury Villager

From Sanair Super Speedway’s dragstrip in Quebec, we bring you one of the strangest heads-up races we’ve seen in a while. In the left lane is a 5.4-powered Ford Crown Victoria that has been converted to row-yer-own by using a Tremec 3650. Pier, the man behind the YouTube channel “p71c1” is well-known in the Panther world as one of the big proponents of doing the manual-trans swap on the big cars and he builds them to drive…violently. Given the number of Crown Vics that he’s messed with (according to my research), it’s impossible for me to tell which particular car he’s running, but it sounds healthy and launches off of the line cleanly.

In the other lane? A Mercury Villager. Yes, that rolling abomination of a minivan is in the other lane. But it’s packing one pissed off 351 and is in a hurry to dispatch the big Ford with prejudice. The result of this race? The Vic ran a [email protected] with a 1.989 sixty foot. The Mercury blasted out a [email protected] MPH. Take it from me, I’d love to watch Brian announce this particular race in person.

Bonneville Speed Week Video: Record Setting Runs And Muscle Cars On The Salt During Speed Week 2020

Bonneville Speed Week Video: Record Setting Runs And Muscle Cars On The Salt During Speed Week 2020

What truly makes Bonneville Speed Week special is the variety of vehicles that you see hauling ass down the salt. Different body styles, different engine combos, and different visions are what Bonneville Speed Week is all about, and it is what people who come for the first time always comment on. There are so many classes, so many combos within those classes, and so much flexibility in how you build your perfect race car for Speed Week, that there is no way that any two are exactly the same. Streamliners, Lakesters, door cars, roadsters, and sports cars just scratch the surface as there are so many different classes, variations, and interpretations of each of these classifications. When you watch the two videos below, one that is all record runs from Bonneville Speed Week 2020, and the other that is nothing but Muscle Cars on the salt, you’ll get to see just how cool this place is and just how cool the racing is.

Watch and see what you think and tell us what vehicle in these videos is your favorite. Would you rather drive a streamliner down the salt? A lakester? That’s like a streamliner but with the wheels hanging out. Or a door car? Maybe a roadster?

Watch and tell us what you think.

Historical Drag Racing Video: Mario Andretti Drag Racing For The Only Time In His Life At Connecticut Dragway!

Historical Drag Racing Video: Mario Andretti Drag Racing For The Only Time In His Life At Connecticut Dragway!

This right here is some stuff! The first part of the video seems to date from the first half of the 1960s but the last half comes from 1968 and there’s one really specific way that we know that. This is rare footage of Mario Andretti drag racing for the only time in his life at Connecticut Dragway in 1968.

You will see him landing on the strip in a little Cessna, hanging out with the trophy queen and ultimately see him making laps in a Mustang on behalf of Tasca Ford! Andretti ran a match race against track owner Frank Maratta who is driving a Camaro prepared by Norwood Chevrolet. To double down on the awesome, the car that Andretti is likely a Tasca KR8, the car that the production Cobra Jet Mustangs were based off of! Surely they would not have stuck Mario in some 390 powered Mustang, right? He got the good stuff we’re sure.

There’s plenty of other fun stuff to be seen here in the form of wheel standers and loads of awesome cars but the real story if Mario. Recently on television he talked about this particular day and his memories all these years later are 100% spot on, the video proves it! You will see him fly in around the 13:00 minute mark and his runs against Maratta are shown around the 15:00 mark.

Drag racing history in living color!

Press play below to see this amazing footage from Connecticut Dragway!
